Creation of a formal pleached Hornbeam (Carpinus betulus) entrance avenue for a new residential property in Hoddesdon, combining planting design, landscaping, and soft landscaping for structure, privacy, and seasonal interest. For this new residential property in Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire, the brief was to create a frontage with impact — a landscape that balances privacy with structure, while softening the clean architectural lines of the home.

Project Overview:
Our solution was a carefully designed pleached Hornbeam (Carpinus betulus) avenue, framing the entrance to the property. This approach added natural architecture to the frontage, offering elegance, privacy, and seasonal character in a way that complements the property’s modern design.

Te Brief:
Enhance the property’s frontage with a formal, structured avenue.
Provide privacy from the street while maintaining light and openness.
Complement the clean, contemporary design of the home.
Deliver a long-lasting, low-maintenance landscape feature.

The Process:
Preparation – The frontage was cleared and finished with new paving.
Tree Selection & Delivery – Mature pleached Hornbeam trees were sourced for their quality, form, and suitability to the site.
Setting Out – Trees were positioned to ensure symmetry and alignment, creating the intended avenue effect.
Planting – Trees were installed with soil improvement, staking, and irrigation planning for healthy establishment.
Finishing – Adjustments to spacing and alignment completed the seamless formal avenue.

The Result:
The completed avenue of pleached Hornbeam trees now provides:
A striking, symmetrical entrance feature enhancing the frontage.
Privacy screening while maintaining light and air.
Seasonal interest, with lush spring and summer foliage turning warm autumn tones.
A sustainable, low-maintenance landscape feature that matures beautifully over time.
This project shows how planting design and soft landscaping in Hoddesdon can transform a property’s frontage into something both functional and elegant.
